Monitor power buttonTurning the System and Computer on

  • The podium's touchscreen should come on automatically when it detects movement around it. If it does not, press any button to turn it on.
  • The screen will read "Press here to begin". Press there.
  • You also must turn on the computer and the monitor:
    • Press the power button on the bottom left corner of the monitor (see picture on right).
    • Open up the door on the podium and find the device labeled "Computer". Press the power button on the front of it. Wait for the computer to completely start up.
  • Select the device you wish to use through the Podium Touchscreen

Connecting a laptop/tablet/iPad

HDMI ConnectorHDMI

  • Locate the HDMI cord in the top of the podium in the cable cubby.
  • Connect the HDMI cord to your laptop.
  • On the podium's touchscreen, press the HDMI button on the far right.

VGA

  • VGA Connector

    Retrieve the VGA cord from the bottom drawer in the podium. This cord has an integrated audio cable.
  • Connect the VGA cord to your laptop and to the VGA connector in the cable cubby on the top of the podium.
  • Connect the integrated audio cable to its port in the cable cubby and to the headphone jack on your laptop.
  • Press the Laptop button on the touchscreen control.


MDP (DisplayPort)

  • DisplayPort Adapter

    Retrieve the MDP adapter cable from the bottom drawer in the podium.
  • Plug the MDP connector into your laptop.
  • Plug the other end of the cable into the HDMI plug in the cable cubby on top of the podium (you may need to remove an adapter).
  • Press the HDMI button on the touchscreen control.

Playing a DVD Movie, Blu-Ray Movie, or Audio CD

  1. Press the Eject button on the DVD player inside the podium (see diagram on page 3)
  2. Insert your disc, and press the Eject button once more to close the tray.
  3. Press the DVD button on the podium's touchscreen control panel.
  4. All DVD controls (other than the Eject button) are accessed through the podium's touchscreen control panel.

Volume control

Speaker Volume

  • From any screen, you may adjust the speaker volume with the knob under the touchscreen on the podium. See diagram on page 3. Clockwise turns your volume up.
  • You may mute the speakers by pressing the mute button on the bottom right corner of the screen.

Microphone Volume

  • You may adjust the volume of the microphone by pressing the Audio Control button at the bottom right of the touchscreen. Press the up and down arrows to adjust the microphone's volume.

Using a Data DVD or CD

  • If you need to use a DVD or CD on the computer, there is a USB DVD player in the bottom drawer. You can plug it into the front of the computer in the podium, or you can plug it into the monitor.
  • Closed Caption needs? Use the computer's DVD player to play the movie through the computer.

Using a USB Memory Stick

  • You may plug your USB memory sticks into the USB ports in the computer inside the podium or into the USB ports on the left side of the monitor.

Using the Document Camera

  • Only raise the arm using the handle. From the front of the device, pull it up and back. See image on the right.

Turning it on

  • Press the power button on the backside of the viewing surface. On the podium's touchscreen control, press the "Doc Cam" button.

Toggling the backlight

  • Press the light button on the back of the viewing surface.

Zooming in and out

  • On the top of the camera, push the dial (shown on the right) up to zoom out, or down to zoom in.

Turning it off

  • Press the power button on the back of the viewing surface.

Video control

Freezing the screen

  • Press the freeze button on the right side of the touchscreen. Press it again to unfreeze the screen.

Muting the screen

  • Press the display mute button on the right side of the touchscreen. The screen will go blank. Press it again to unmute the screen. Note: pressing the Display "On" button on the touchscreen will NOT turn the screen back on. You must use the "Mute" button or the "Display Mute" button.

Using the microphone

  • Retrieve the microphone from the bottom drawer of the podium. It is in a zipper case. Connect the receiver box to your belt, and clip the microphone to your shirt. Flip the switch on top of the receiver box to the on position. Don't forget to turn it off when you're done.
  • By default the microphone volume is all the way up. You must then adjust the speaker volume so that you can hear your voice. All the volume control is through the podium's touchscreen.

Turning everything off

  • Navigate to Start -> Shut down.
  • On the podium's touchscreen control, press the System off button in the bottom right corner. Confirm by pressing power down.

Stylus Pens and Smart Tablet Functions

The stylus pens attached to the touchscreen monitors may be used to navigate in lieu of the mouse, and are also able to draw on the screen in four different colors.

Drawing on the screen

When the computer first starts up, the pen will default to its "cursor" functionality.

  1. Press one of the color buttons near the top of the monitor (shown above) to select a color.
  2. Begin to draw on the screen with the stylus. The first time you draw, it will take a few moments to appear.
  3. You may now switch programs and draw over anything you like.

Erasing from the screen

  • SmartInk buttonTo erase part of your line, press the eraser button near the top of the monitor, just to the left of the black ink button (shown above) and draw the areas that you'd like to erase.
  • To erase the entire drawing from your screen, tap the on-screen Smart Ink menu as shown to the right, and then select "Clear Ink" from the menu.

Advanced Ink Options

Several options, such as line thickness, pressure-sensitive thickness, and highlighters are available from the on-screen Smart Ink menu, as shown below.
